Noah blinked twice. The first time he looked at the clock, it was two in the morning. After the next blink, his watch vibrated, jolting him into a sitting position. Fuck-shit-damn. It was already five in the morning. He kicked the covers away, biting back another oath. The chill of the floor seeped through his bare feet drawing soft hisses from him.

She'd done it on purpose. Gia ruined the area rug so he would have to walk barefoot on the wooden floors. Just like she’d established the whole up before sundown rule to torture him. The two weeks he'd been in town, she’d worked him like a rented mule. They left the house at six and returned every night at ten, where she would shower and lock herself in her room until the next morning.

Conversation during the day was nonexistent unless it had to deal with her business. His days were filled with carry this, move that and bring this to table three. He'd come to welcome the full daily hour when Hattie Mae, err Miss Agnes would show up and talk to them. If it weren’t for the nosy old woman or the tea house customers, he would've already put a bullet from his precious Beretta through his head.

How long could she keep this up? The daily question continued unanswered. The silence, instead of driving Gia crazy, gave her endless opportunities to hum while doing things. So far, he recognized No More Drama and Forget You, which she hummed all day the morning after Noah went out for drinks with Cristian. The same night, she'd locked him out of the house and had only let him in after he’d threatened to make a call to the radio station.

He could have kicked the Healin Leaf down. The only thing that kept him together was his pride. Pride was the last thing he had left.

He almost growled and threw the door open. He was looking forward to a shower to wake him up. Gia probably believed that throwing all that adversity would make him turn tail and run. How little she knew him. Noah's teeth clamped together. She continued to underestimate him.

He tiptoed his way down the hallway, tilting his head in quick silent thanks that he could parade around the house without the enforcement of her precious modesty rule. He’d made it a point to be up earlier than her this morning, to watch her squirm when she found him in the dining room, reading the paper and ready for work. He looked forward to rattling her by putting her at the disadvantage of being waited on.

The bathroom door gave away to a light push with only a mild creak of protest. The lower lights were on and Noah stopped cold on his feet. Gia was toweling her hair and in her underwear, oblivious to everything.

The creamy, chestnut skin he’d once spent hours running his lips and hands over was exposed for his delighted eyes. Barely-there cloth covered the breasts he’d sculpted with long flicks of his tongue and the rounded ass made for his hands to squeeze.
